This is a great tip for iPhone 3G and 3Gs owners out there! This is how you can use your iPhone to get internet connection on the go! You may also use this little trick at your house if you do not have internet accessibility for some reason.

Anywho? lets get starting! I learned how to do this from a cool youtube video.

Steps include a download that you have to visit on your iPhone. Which will install a mobile configuration file. Basically what this means is that your’e using the internet connection from your iPhone ‘FREE’ as a modem for your computer (desktop or laptop).

Charges from your carrier will apply. I also beilieve that tethering is not available right now for a reason!! so until then, lets just assume that you are not supposed to use tethering for your iPhone. Be warned that you may use this at your own risk.

So please check and see what your carrier plan is, so that you don’t get stuck with a butt load of user charges.

With your Phone go to this website, to download the Mobileconfig file http://help.benm.at/help.php
When you get to this page just click the Mobileconfigs downloads button:

After you download the Mobileconfig file, the site will ask you where you live by country. Simply choose the country of your choice!

I chose USA, but choose whichever country you live in. Provided that it is an available choice from the list on the website. Once you do that you will see this screen!

Choose the carriers that are available. Right now only two are available ( At&t and T-Mobile)

Once you have installed the file. Go to Settings>General>Network>
Notice: that you have a new network settings named Internet Tethering

For Mac Users you have to setup a new network view the video below. First connect your iPhone 3G or 3Gs to your computer. Also for Windows users I noticed that you can just enable the Internet Tethering by going to Settings>General>Networks>Internet Tethering ON . When you do this, the system will ask you if you want to connect via USB or Bluetooth. I normally choose USB because my iPhone is connected to my machine by USB cord.

I have a Mac and PC so watch this vid for a little break down on how to make a new network on your Mac for iPhone 3G tethering.

Sorry I have been gone for a while… but is anybody really there! Haha… (sigh) as I cry alone in my room . But anyways here are some helpful links to some good reads for those iPhone hackers out there. The iPhone Dev team portal is probably the first place to start, since they kick ass at pwning the iPhone day after day.

Get your iPhone tools HERE

Enjoy

* The iPhone Wiki – The site that started it all for me. Lots of great technical information and history there, but unfortunately spammers have also invaded the site recently, making life difficult for the maintainers. (Now Defunct)

* The Hackint0sh iPhone Forums- Started up around the same time as the iPhone Dev Wiki, so again, a wealth of information and helpful people here.

* iPhone Dev Team Portal – Site for the original iPhone dev team. The people who started it all.

* iPhone Elite Dev Team - The elite iPhone dev team. Used to be quite active and open with information.

* Geohot’s Blog – Geohot is the first person to have a SIM unlocked iPhone (outside of Apple). Knows the iPhone hardware as well as the Apple engineers. Though his software skills are still in question… (hey, I cleaned up bits of the fake IPSF server code for my own use, so I’ve seen his code)

* George’s Blog – No, this is not Geohot’s blog! But it’s still a good resource for understanding the technical details behind iPhone hacking discoveries.

* The Touchdev Wiki – Same structure as the iPhone Dev Wiki, but for the iPod Touch (or iTouch).

* iPhone Toolchain Project Page – Essential for iPhone application developers. Just make sure to release a standalone version of your killer iPhone app, ok?

* anySIM Project Page – The source code for anySIM. Interesting to me, maybe to you too?

* Nate True’s iPhone Utils and Info - Nate did a lot of the early iPhone hacking and maintained iBrickr for a while (kinda like iNdependence for Windows with a fancier interface — I’ve never been much of a UI tweaker — I enjoy the technical details more). Still a useful site for files and technical info.

* Erica Sadun’s Blog – Erica is one of the first major iPhone application developers and continues to produce interesting apps for the iPhone. Not to mention she has a loyal following amongst the sexually frustrated, male-dominated crowd of would-be iPhone hackers.

As some of you may know, the new OS Mac Leopard has lots of great new features that are helpful in many wonderful ways. But lets face it, some of us just like things the way they are. Mac OS’s come every couple of years and while the brilliant and diligently working programmers at Apple are creating the “Next Great Operating System” we normal non programmers are Finally getting used to our old Operating System. So how do you stay up to date with the new awesome Mac Operating Systems while holding on to the old school. Thats easy…. Use some of these Top 10 Leopard Hacks! Go ahead and upgrade to the new Mac OS 10.5, you can still have some of the things that you loved about Tiger OS. Top 10 Leopard Hacks Via LifeHacker and Other sites

Make the menubar opaque- Lots of Leopard users say the menu bars new transparency makes menu items difficult to read. To turn the menu bar opaque again (like it was in Tiger), download and run the free OpaqueMenuBar

Kill The Dock Reflection- If the new reflective dock is too distracting to you. Then turn it off using these terminal commands.

(via Wired, omit the $ prompt when you type them yourself): $ defaults write com.apple.dock no-glass -boolean YES $ killall Dock 3. Revert the Blue Dots to Tiger Black Triangles- Leopard uses blue dots to show open applications. Here is a quick way to change it back to Tiger’s black triangles. First, you need the triangle, of course. Download indicators.zip and unpack it on your Desktop. The files are:

indicator_large.png (42 x 14 pixel)

indicator_medium.png (32 x 11 pixel)

indicator_small.png (14 x 8 pixel)

Why three of them? You will notice later that, unlike in previous versions of OS X, the size of the indicator in Leopard changes as you resize the Dock. You can try to use the medium size for all three to keep it from resizing, it’s up to you. Or you can create your own indicators, just make sure you keep the image sizes and names as listed above and make the background transparent. NOTE: messing around with root files is dangerous and if you do not know what you are doing itweaks.wordpress.com is not responsible for any damage to your system. Continue with this iTweak at your own risk. If you agree then read on. Close all applications and log out, then log in as Administrator (root). Navigate to /Users/<your_user_name>/Desktop. From there take the indicator files and move them to the Desktop in root. In Finder select your hard disk (Usually Macintosh HD), then /System/Library/CoreServices Right-click on Dock and select Show Package Contents. (If you don’t have this menu option, you will need to install Developer Tools.) Select Contents/Resources/ This is where you will find the original indicator files, rename them to something else – just in case (e.g. original_indicator_small.png). Now copy your three triangle indicator files into this folder. Reload the Dock (Ctrl + Option + right-click | Relaunch). If you still have any applications running, you may want to close and reopen them to update the indicator. Enjoy! (Hack #3:via SilverMac.com) 5. Add a Stack Of Recent Apps- We all know that when you are using your Mac that you can easily find yourself reaching for the same apps and files. In terminal add these following commands: $ defaults write com.apple.dock persistent-others -array-add ‘{ “tile-data” = { “list-type” = 1; }; “tile-type” = “recents-tile”; }’ $ killall Dock. 6. Change Your Dock From 3d to 2d- For those of you that do not like the 3d dock or just want to have the option of changing your dock to a 2d image. Download Dock Doctor.

6. Zip Quick Look- Have you ever wondered “Man I hope this zip file does not corrupt my system” or “have I used this zip file before” well with this iTweak you can look in to the zip file just like you are vieweing a picture folder in Leopard. Zip.qlgenerator shows archived file list in Quick Look. 7. Time Machine Setup- If your Mac is slowing down due to frequent updates from time machine. Fine tune your back up scheduling time with this freeware. (TimeMachineScheduler) 8. Quick Finder Tab – Okay this is the coolest one. Have you always wondered how to quit the quick Finder dock icon. Well I have and here is where you can find out how to install a freeware that lets you do that. Add a Quit Menu to the Finder 9. Unlock Hidden OS X Leopard settings- Turn on and off preferences to lots of features in Leopard by downloading a freeware LeopardMod 10. HackYour PC into a Mac- Well is not exactly a Leopard mod fully but it is really cool. Read More…. Hope You liked some of these Leopard Hacks… If you want to learn about more Hacks for your Apple Products. Subscribe to our RSS feed

This new sleek style would be welcome by almost any Apple Fan out there. But will it make its debut at this years Apple’s Macworld. Some have said that it may not show up just yet because of the increased sales of the Mac Book line.

I certainly would love to see a New model come out because that means that I can afford the older version of the Mac Book Pro.

Something that I have been dying to get my hands on. But….I just could not bring myself to fork out the cash necessary to purchase one. And since I have been Procrastinating for so long and using my trusty Sony Vaio to best that I can. It is even harder not to think that as soon I make that fateful purchase of a shiny new Macbook Pro, a new one will be released a mere week later.

UPDATE : This is a Older Version Hack

Ziphone 3.0 is here…install apps with the click of a button One Click Jailbreak / Unlock any sim carrier read more

Seriously Don’t Read This Post Anymore…Give it a quick skim then Go to Ziphone Post above this link!! Enjoy… iPhone Downloads

For those of you who have recently found yourself to be a proud owner of a beautiful and sleek iPhone or iTouch, this post is for you. I found a article from one of my favorite sites “Lifehacker.com“. If you have just recently purchased or received a iPhone or iTouch, this install will be a little different than those of you who have a older version of both products.

3rd party apps are a beautiful thing. But Apple has and will do everything in their power to stop you from making your iPhone into “your” iPhone. This is definitely understandable since after all it is their product. But since most of the world is not patient enough to wait for Apple to come around. Here are some ways around the wall of upgrades that will lock your iPhone into application purgatory.

NOTE: As we all know the world isn’t perfect and neither am I. So do not think that this is fool proof plan. Learn and read as much as possible before you continue with this process of hacking your iTouch and iPhone. I know all to well how fustrating these things can be so bare with me. Here are some tips you might find useful that I found in a Lifehacker.com comment thread.

1. Make sure you have the latest JAVA installed otherwise it won’t work
2. In Windows, make sure you close iTunes AND all iTunes related processes (e.g., iTunesHelper, etc.) from the Task Manager
3. Move your jailbreak folder to the root folder in Windows (e.g., C:\) and the desktop on the Mac (you may also have to rename your hard drive on the Mac temporarily to MacintoshHD)
4. It may not work the first time you try. If not, restore and start over.
5. Nothing bad is going to happen if you just remember you can always force restore and get back to the original firmware. If you still have problems with the jailbreak, visit iLounge or iPod Touch Fans Forum – there are plenty of people there who can help you work out any problems…

1st Thing to Do!

The first thing your going to want to do is find out what firmware your iPhone is running. This can be done by docking your iPhone and clicking on the summary tab to see what version that you are running.

You want to have the 1.1.1. Firmware because the software that you are going to need to use has a one click upgrade that makes it extremely easy to downgrade to the right version of firmware for your iPhone. After you have performed this tweak. If you have the 1.1.1 version go to http://Jailbreakme.com and click install AppSnapp.

If this sounds to risky take a look at this article from Lifehacker.com.

If you have a older firmware version 1.0 or the newest version 1.1.2 you are going to want to upgrade or downgrade your phone to the 1.1.1. Get the iPhone firmware Here. Get the 1.1.1 firmware for your iTouch Here .

2nd

Make sure that the file ends in
_Restore.ipsw
, which it should by default. While it’s downloading, go ahead and reboot your iPhone into recovery mode. To do so, plug in your iPhone, hold down the power and home buttons at the same time until your iPhone restarts (don’t slide to power off), and then release the power button. Continue holding the home button until your device enters recovery mode.

3rd

While your firmware is still downloading which might take a while, Download the 1.1.2 Jailbreak files. Unzip the files to your desktop. Again go to the same Summary tab where you found your current firmware version. This time, though, you’re going to restore the firmware to the 1.1.1 version you just downloaded. To do this, Shift-Click the Restore button in Windows or Option-Click on a Mac and browse to where you saved the 1.1.1 firmware, select it, and restore. When the restore process completes, it will end with an error. Don’t worry if this happens, as the jailbreak software is made to overcome the error.

Once you have done that run the windows.bat file on windows or the jailbreak.jar file on Mac. This will help you get past the error. If you are running jailbreak.jar all you need to do is click the reboot from recovery button.

Now when you have correctly downgraded or upgraded you firmware to 1.1.1 point your mobile safari browser to http://Jailbreakme.com and install the appsnapps. This uses your safari mobile to pull down the apps to your phone.

You can also upgrade back to 1.1.2 Latest firmware version. Without breaking the jailbreak tweak.

Launch the installer tab on your iPhone and tap the Oktoprep installer. After you install this on the iPhone it will prep your device to be able to update without breaking the jailbreak tweak. Just dock the phone and click the update button in your iTunes. To complete the jailbreak, close iTunes, make sure your device is connected, then head back to the 1.1.2-jailbreak Folder you downloaded earlier and re-run either windows.bat (Windows users) or jailbreak.jar (Mac user).

Well the iPhone 1.1.3 firmware has been released recently and shows some real admirable tricks that are hard to believe. Some forums have said that the images that are circulating are photoshop and manufactured.

In the new firmware release the user interface claims to have a movable dock and bookmarks that can be saved on your home screen. Other features have enhanced the google map application for more comprehensive searches using cellular tower triangulations.

The question is … Is it True?
